Empire Visual Flame Vented Room Heaters

Heat large areas economically with Empire’s vented room heaters. With their efficient heat flow, the durable RH50 and RH65 offer ample warmth to make any room comfortable. The one-piece glass enclosure on the RH50B and RH65B allows you to see the flame as it heats, while the optional ceramic logs add visual interest. The closed front on the RH50C and RH65C easily fits in any decor.

Vented or Vent-Free?

Natural gas space heaters are typically available in two types – vented and vent-free models.

Vented Space Heaters
- Are vented out from the back into a chimney or a vent pipe, so combustion exhausts are directed outside.
- Range from around 25K Btu to greater than 65K Btu and can be used to heat a greater area in the home.
Vent-Free Space Heaters
- Are less expensive and easier to install because they draw air from the room to support combustion for a blue flame or radiant system.
- Are designed with an “ODS,” Oxygen Depletion Sensor, to automatically turn off the heater if the room’s oxygen levels reach an unsafe level. This is also commonly referred to as “Flame Failure Safety.”
- Are typically used to heat a specific room or area.

Things to Consider

There are two types of space heaters – vented and vent-free -- so determine which would be best for your needs.

- Vent-free units are designed to provide supplemental heat and may not be used as a primary heat source.
- Most units are available in natural gas or propane fueled.
Convenience
They can be mounted on the wall or floor.

They have top-mounted controls for ease of operation.

They may be installed in mobile homes, as permitted by local and state codes.
Warranties
Investigate and compare warranty plans available to you from the appliance manufacturer.

Ask important questions, including:

Does the warranty cover equipment and installation?

If so, for how long?

What is the typical cost of service and maintenance?

Your contractor should be properly licensed and insured. Ask if he or she installs and services products. You should ask for (and receive) an estimate in writing.
